With the help of this post, I have created a bare bone child template for TwentySixteen theme. The  working trick is that you have to put the custom content.php under a folder "template-parts", because TwentySixteen theme expects content.php to be in this folder. If you put it in the root of the child theme, it will be ignored. This child theme include four files: -- the functions.php --the screenshot.png -- the style.css and -- the content.php under the folder 'template-parts'. To download here , then follow the link.
